The Hassan family was sponsored by a private sponsorship group in Halifax, a group composed of mostly retired professionals - which was helpful, as collectively, they had the knowledge and the contacts to find and access the services this family needed.

Mohammad has health problems. He is being monitored at the Halifax Rehab Centre.

The brothers, Mohammad and Ahmed, had some knowledge of English before arriving in Canada. They are now fluent.

JoAnn Murphy is a member of the sponsoring group who welcomed the Hasan family.

Bahie enjoys her English class at ISANS (Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia).

Bahie is learning to write in English.

When I asked Bahie if I could photograph her in class, she said yes, as long as I took a photo of all her classmates.

Hanaa Hasan is continuing her English classes at ISANS.
