PARNS: Sisters Saafa and Raaja in Halifax
Sisters Safaa and Raja were students in Damascus when war broke out. They left for Turkey. They are Druze from the city of Sweida in Syria. Although the war was not affecting their city directly, they saw no futur for themselves in Syria. Now that they have learned English in Halifax, they want to learn French. Raja hopes to study film production. We met in the Halifax library. When I asked to take their photo, they suggested their favorite spot in the library, where they can look out at the construction and development of the city of Halifax, reminiscent of the hustle and bustle of Damascus.
