Scythe Mowing a Meadow

Nov 6, 2017 | Land & Sea

Gordon Lohnes and Perry Vienot demonstrate the art of using a scythe on a shore meadow in Lunenburg, NS. Both are multiple winners of the annual scything contest at Ross Farm Museum, NS. Both are around 90 years old, but can still mow with the best. After mowing, they go inside to chat about locally-obtained whetstones. This is a short clip from the series Voices of Lunenburg County, featuring folks with very long memories and old-time skills.
